Hey sorry about that Steve, but I'm a New Yorker, and I like to be descriptive. I didn't mean it in a bad way, just there was a ton left unanswered. I feel that Groove pretty much called it as is, and said "hey, what about all THIS??".
But I'm sorry if the wording is not what you like. I write the way I speak. Honestly, very real, no sugar coating. I speak my mind, whether it's Peter Erskine, Vinnie Colaiuta, Roy Haynes or Joe's Mechanic. You'll only hear honesty from me. In most cases I find people respect that more than the sugar coating approach.
To be totally honest with you, I believe you're saying this only because of it's reference to something posted by a great.
If Grooves post was about anyone else's post and I said it got ripped to shreds, I tend to think you wouldn't have been involved.
Don't you think this should have been said in the Aronoff post where the poster was not only crude, but extremely insulting?
I'm sorry but saying someone ripped a post to shreds is what it is. It's not an insult or crude, or inappropriate. Again, I'm not a kiss ass. I can play, and I do respect and love the work of todys top players, but I'm not afraid to speak my mind.

You better run for cover before I snap. If you read all my posts you will see that the first thing I mentioned is that I am not a professional in this area. To throw me (and anyone else) in a basket of people to ignore makes me want to vomit on the screen! John, I may have the name of the band wrong, although I'm pretty sure he said Brand X. Is Virgil the drummer? If I'm wrong you have my apologies, but I'm sure I said Brand X to him on the phone today. He's from NYC and moved out there to play with them about one year ago.
I hope I'm not thinking of another band. I'll look him up and let you know.
I believe Rufus P has played w Virg & Co. in Planet X, if that's what u guys r refr'g to.

This thread started off with a guy asking some advice about joining perhaps one of the most musically satisfying situations - big band - where people who do what we do - for the love of it - can express themselves in ensemble.
And it's turned into a contest to see who can hose down the decks with testosterone and name-drop (or almost-name-drop) the most. The thread's now four pages long, and you can count the number of posts that actually said something useful to the OP on the fingers of one hand. That's a damn disgrace.

I believe Rufus Philpot is originally from the UK and then spent some time in New York before moving out to LA to mainly do the Planet X gig with Virgil. Spoke to him briefly - he said he was recommended for the PX gig by Ric Fierabracci, who himself moved from LA to NY. Sorry it's off the original topic, just replying to the last posts.

Learn to play by the rules or sit on the bench.
To have discussions in a formal manner without being impolite is a basic skill you clearly seem to lack. Your personality or desire to speak your mind can't be used as defense. That lengthy excuse had to me falling off my chair with laughter.
